Geography: All Cornwall

Age Range: Any parent or carer.

Gender: Both

Status/Affiliation: Part of SCOPE

Brief Description of Project:

Face2Face is a one-to-one parent(s) befriending service offering emotional support to parents whose children have been recognised as having a disability or additional need, or at any time a parent feels overwhelmed by related issues.

Services Offered:

Emotional Support - one-to-one befriending and Oasis support groups.

Information and advice - Resource room with a wide range of information.

Signposting to any other relevant agency.

Services are delivered by trained parent volunteers supported by professionals.

Further Comments:

All parents whose children are recognised as having a disability or additional need are supported emotionally by trained befrienders if they request support. All befrienders are themselves parents of children with disabilities and additional needs.

The support will help parents to understand their childrens special needs and their own feelings about them.

Parents can be enabled to become empowered, which helps them manage their families new situation and navigate the complex emotional issues surrounding the discovery of disability in a child.

CHLC endeavours to ensure that all the information on this website is accurate and from genuine organisations. We have accepted the information given in good faith and ask that organisations complete a Quality Check List for review. This review enables us to satisfy 'ourselves' that projects are properly constituted and that procedures are in place to vet project staff (in accordance with 'our' understanding of the nature of the project). Where we are unsure, where systems are complex, or where documentation, procedures or systems are still being established, we advise individuals to contact the project manager concerned. Where reviewing has not been completed we advise with the following statement "Reviewing currently in progress".

It is, however, the responsibility of individuals to ensure that they are satisfied that any contacts made via this website and its database are suitable for their needs. The review is only 'our opinion' and we do not check the project documentation or procedures. CHLC (PCDT and its partners Cornwall Council, Penwith Volunteer Bureau and Volunteer Cornwall) take no responsibility for the use of this information.
